Understanding the Authority of the Believer by Pastor Don MooreWe need to step into the Authority of the Believer, into what the Bible says.In our hearts we need to understand what God has done, transfer it to our minds so we can exercise that authority.

Pastor Don gave the example of a gym full of teenagers milling around and a lot of people needed to go into that gym so that something could be accomplished.  To do this they had to call the teenagers into order, it could be to save lives, or to leave in an orderly way, make them in a position to hear news, or whatever other thing needed to be done.  If the principal of the school tells you to go and create order, you are endowed with the authority to get it done.  But order will not happen unless the kids sense confidence in your voice, posture, and spirit, and then they will listen.  If you do not have that, the kids won’t pay attention, and it could hurt your chances of ever gaining order with the kids for the rest of the year.

How do we get that authority?

Pastor Don told us that, as a pastor, he needs to maintain order, not discord.  It is necessary for this order to happen so he can do what he is called to do.

Often people who want to be in authority do not step up to do what they want to do.  It takes a long time to take authority over our lives.  We make excuses about things, not understanding our authority in Jesus.  People are amazed to see those who have the ability to exercise authority no matter what the situation or condition.

The Pharisees saw that with Jesus.  They said, Matthew 7:28-29 And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

There is appropriate and inappropriate authority.  Jesus spoke with appropriate authority.  He was the real spiritual deal.  Jesus knew:  Who I am, Whose I am, and What am I doing now.  He did not care about rejection.

We often don’t act out of fear of rejection.

In Jerusalem there was a chaotic situation in the market place, Jesus fashions a whip and takes authority to drive out the money changers and cleanse the temple.  When questioned, he replied Matthew 21:13 And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’

Jesus spoke about God like no one else spoke, he called God, “Father (abba).”

According to Jewish law a son is born in his Father’s house, and owns everything, and has the same authority as the Father.

In our culture a child is not called an adult until the parents say so, but that is not so in Jewish culture, where the child has Biblical authority when they are 12 1/2 and there is a passing of authority.

Mary was only 14 years old.  God gave tremendous authority to her.

Pastor Don told us that we would be shocked to realize that in other cultures around the world there is no such thing as the “terrible 2′s”.  Our culture is the only culture with rebellious teenagers.  He told us that he and his wife promised never to speak the words, “terrible 2′s” over their children and they never saw it as terrible.

If a rule is set, the rule is designed to be broken.  Romans 7:7-12 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.” But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire. For apart from the law sin was dead. I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died. And the commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death. For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me. Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy
and just and good

For example, if on your road there are no speed limit signs you can go any speed you like.  Once a speed limit sign is placed, then you can be guilty of speeding.

The giving of authority places us in a position to succeed or fail depending on our willingness to accept authority.  We either succeed or fail.

When the teacher walks into the gym to create order among the teenagers, whether he succeeds or fails will depend on whether he believes he has the authority to do it, and if he can walk in that authority.  If he doesn’t believe he has authority, the kids will sense it.  They will pick it up in their spirit and discern that he doesn’t believe he has authority. This response to authority will be with him the rest of the year, and perhaps many other years.  Unless the teacher understands and responds to what he understands and changes.

Having Bible knowledge isn’t authority.  Coming to church is often experiencing music and teaching, quiet listening, but unless that is applied in your life it does not give you authority.

How come church is so soft on sin today?  Our answer to this may be wrong but it can lead to good discussions.  But the truth is that sin can disqualify you in your personal life.  We can know the truth, know right from wrong and choose not to follow truth and right.

We don’t know our authority.

Proverbs 29:1-4 He who is often rebuked, and hardens his neck, will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy. When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Whoever loves wisdom makes his father rejoice, but a companion of harlots wastes his wealth. The king establishes the land by justice, but he who receives bribes overthrows it.

The righteous thrive, increase and become great.

Matthew 7:24 Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock:

There is a comma between “Mine” and the phrase “does them”.  Most people put a period after hearing the sayings.  But it is hearing and DOING.  Pastor Don showed us a gold flake that supernaturally fell in his Bible near this passage – it is smaller than glitter and finer.

Jesus spoke in NAME and AUTHORITY.

Matthew 7:28-29 And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Jesus is not talking ABOUT the Word – HE IS THE WORD.  He was not telling us what he thinks, but what HE SAYS.

In the Bible the hearing of the Word is mentioned more times than the reading of the Word.

Authority lines up with the Word.

The scribes saw that he spoke as one HAVING authority.

An apostle, before he speaks to you, doesn’t have to tell you he is an apostle, or a prophet, or a pastor, it will be evident in how he takes authority.  When you build on the Rock you will begin to have Kingdom Authority.

Mark 4:1-3 And again He began to teach by the sea. And a great multitude was gathered to Him, so that He got into a boat and sat in it on the sea; and the whole multitude was on the land facing the sea. Then He taught them many things by parables, and said to them in His teaching: “Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow.

LISTEN – BEHOLD  Jesus is talking about simple things, but he is saying listen – you better pay attention, I am telling you something.

Luke 4:6 And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.

The devil can only have authority over what has been given to him.  Jesus did not call him a liar when he said that he could give Jesus this authority.  Adam gave that authority over to satan by his disobedience to God.

Luke 4:7-8  Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.” And Jesus answered and said to him, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’

Jesus answered satan with the Word – IT IS WRITTEN.  He gave the written word with authority.

Luke 4:5 Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

All the kingdoms of the world.

Luke 4:6 And the devil said to Him, “All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.

Satan had the authority to give Jesus the Kingdoms of the earth because Adam gave them to satan.  The sons of Adam are giving this authority to satan on an ongoing basis.  Jesus did not accept the Kingdom from satan.  If he had accepted the kingdom from satan, satan would have taken it back and taken more.

The leaders of nations give their hearts and minds to satan.  Pharaoh did, deciding to oppose God.  Idi Amin, Hitler, and if you look these leaders who did such evil were all involved in the occult.

Even in America there are roots of the occult in our government.  Pastor Don pointed out that even on our dollar bill are occult images – such as the all seeing eye.  Pastor Don went over some of the symbols – and I am going to give you a link I found that clearly delineates what Pastor Don shared and some more – this is a link of mine, not given by Pastor Don.

He went over it very quickly, but the above link covers what he spoke about the pyramid, what the Latin means – new world order, the fact that 1776 was not July 4th but rather the date of May 4th which is connected with the illuminati in USA.  The all seeing eye of horus – is a pagan god, that will come to rest on the world.  The plans for the new world order have been in existence for a long time.  Notice that we often speak of the Almighty dollar.

God is not pleased with this.  And we are beginning to see signs of how our government is leaning toward the new world order and anarchy.

Luke 4 tells us that satan is prepared to give authority to Jesus.  He is willing to give power to many, make them rich and famous, so that they can serve what he wants them to serve.  This plan is still going on today.

But the final reality is the sovereign will of God.  Right now we are in the permissive will of God, and that lets satan get away with his schemes and gives us the choice to accept or reject these schemes, but there will be a judgment.  When God is ready he will act and all of satan’s plans will come to nothing.

Adolph Hitler got leadership of the country and killed the Jews.  He confused the minds of the other nations such as England, France, Danish, Swiss, etc, who couldn’t decide what to do with Hitler – kill him or let him be.

He did what the Palestinians are currently doing – take a little, then say, “I’ll be good.”  Then take a bit more and say, “I’ll be good.”  Rapidly gaining more and more territory.

Pastor Don will continue with John 5:25 and prophetic time and authority.  But I will leave that for tomorrow.

Praying your day is blessed.

About Heather Marsten

Welcome to Heather's Blog. I'm looking forward to meeting you and checking out your sites. I just moved about nine years of material over from another blog site, Xanga, who may close down mid-July. At first I was disappointed to make the move because I had a lifetime membership at Xanga and had to spend weeks transferring posts. But now I'm thrilled. Already I've met new bloggers and read many new websites. Blogging is a wonderful way to expand my horizons and garner new ideas. I'm a happily married mom of three young adults. My husband and I are proud to watch our children grow and venture out into the world. My daughter is still in college but my two sons have graduated. One has a job and the other just graduated and is in the process of finding a job in his field, physics. Anyone know of any jobs out there? I'm proud of our children and love watching them grow and mature. They've become fine, compassionate, and loving people. Empty nest? Nah, I'm too busy to let an empty nest bother me. Not enough hours in the day. My husband and I enjoy quiet time together and I have many interests to pursue - one of which is blogging :D I am a born-again believer and love God. As you read this blog, you will discover that Bible studies thrill me. There is so much wisdom contained between the covers of the Bible and I am fortunate to sit under the teachings of a remarkable pastor, Pastor Don Moore. Members of our church (Living Word Chapel in West Hurley, New York) are encouraged to teach and there are visiting pastors who stop by our church, I also study the Bible on my own and love sharing what I learn. One other passion is writing. My current work in process is a memoir. A scene from my memoir was published in a book called: Heavenly Company: Entertaining Angels Unaware - an anthology of angelic encounters compiled by Cecil Murphy. I'm hoping my memoir will encourage other survivors of abuse. I grew up in a home filled with abuse, including incest. For most of my life I was searching for something that would fill the void of not being loved by my parents. I tried many ways to find that love -- therapy, relationships, occult studies, and keeping my life so filled I had no way to think about my past. It was only when I discovered God that I was able to put the pieces of my life back together and walk forward in a joyous life. My nickname - wondering has changed from wondering where the heck God was in my life, to wondering what incredible adventure is going to happen next. I hope you enjoy my site. Please say hi, share some thoughts, and ask questions. I look forward to meeting you and checking out your sites. Have a blessed day. Heather
