Hebrews 12:25 to end of chapter

Oh guess what? We are on Chapter 12.   I know it must seem like forever that we have been on this chapter, but each week we discover more and more. Trust me, we will get to Chapter 13 one of these days, but this Bible study is so interesting.  Most of us use Thompson’s Chain Link Bibles (this cryptic comment will be clear in a few minutes).

Anyway in Bible study we read Hebrews 12:25 See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven

This flies in the face of those who don’t want to be judgmental.  If we hear what God says and not obey why should we escape what God decrees?

Hebrews 12:26-27 whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.” Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.

God is powerful and He tells us that in these last days a whole lot of shaking will go on.

Now here is where the Bible study turned interesting.  One day (in my spare time) I want to go to a Concordance and do a complete study on this, but Pastor Don divided up the room and had us look in the back of our Bibles at our concordances and look up scriptures on the following words. SHAKE, QUAKE, MOVE, and HEAVEN(S) about what God prophetically said. Bible concordances do not have as many references as Strong’s, but it gave us a good picture.

I will show you what we found,

Exodus 19:18 Now Mount Sinai was completely in smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire. Its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly

Matthew 27:51  Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised;

Joel 2:9-10 They run to and fro in the city, they run on the wall; they climb into the houses, they enter at the windows like a thief. The earth quakes before them, the heavens tremble; the sun and moon grow dark, and the stars diminish their brightness.

Matthew 24:7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places

Haggai 2:7  and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,’ says the LORD of hosts

Isaiah 2:19 They shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, from the terror of the LORD and the glory of His majesty, when He arises to shake the earth mightily.

Isaiah 24:13 When it shall be thus in the midst of the land among the people, it shall belike the shaking of an olive tree, like the gleaning of grapes when the vintage is done.

Job 9:5-6 He removes the mountains, and they do not know when He overturns them in His anger;  He shakes the earth out of its place, and its pillars tremble;

Psalm 29:8-9 The voice of the LORD shakes the wilderness; the LORD shakes the Wilderness of Kadesh. The voice of the LORD makes the deer give birth, and strips the forests bare; and in His temple everyone says, “Glory!”

Haggai 2:6 (I don’t know what translation was used, but the person got this passage for the word move.) For thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land;

Isaiah 13:13 Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth will move out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts and in the day of His fierce anger.

Zachariah 14:4 And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, from east to west,
making a very large valley; half of the mountain shall move toward the north and half of it toward the south.

Revelation 21:1 Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.

Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.

Isaiah 65:17 For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered or come to mind.

Matthew 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

Hebrews 12:20-25, 28 (For they could not endure what was commanded: “And if so much as a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned or shot with an arrow.” And so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I am exceedingly afraid and trembling.”)  But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel. See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven,  (28)Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.

Hosea 10:8 (sin of Israel destroyed) Also the high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed. The thorn and thistle shall grow on their altars; they shall say to the mountains, “Cover us!” and to the hills, “Fall on us!”

Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork.

We only touched the surface of the Scriptures about the reality that is coming.

Pastor Don gave the example of getting to the hospital late and knowing that birth and labor occurred because of the presence of the baby.

There will be a new Heaven and a new earth.

Pastor Don gave an illustration of building a house.  In order to build a new house, first you have to clear the land and make it level, then we can build.  To accomplish anything we have to tear up stuff.  When you look at a building site that is being prepared for the foundation it will seem like chaos. Chaos is necessary in order to get to the finished product. This process is necessary for the earth is filled with dead bodies.

We are seeing the beginnings of this now, for the earth is vomiting us up  for what we do- earthquakes, volcanoes, etc.  The earth is shifting on it’s axis.  It is like a top that is slowing down it’s spinning and beginning to get wobbly.

In the Greek there are two words for shake and move.  There is a sifting – such as sifting wheat. And a bending down to bring the fruit down.  One is to wean out and the other is to bring down so you can find out what is good. Both are violent.

Hebrews 12:28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.

The Kingdom of God cannot be shaken.  We looked back at Hebrews 12:27 Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.

There is a removal of those things that can be shaken and that will leave what can’t be shaken. God is bringing His Spiritual Kingdom and it will get rid of that which is physical and not moving in a consciousness of the Body of God’s Revelation.

God knows.  Jesus went and prepared a place for us.  In Heaven we will have the beauty that we think we will miss because of the end times.

Someone recommended a book:  The Church that Will not Be Raptured

There is a point reached where those who can’t see, can’t see.  Some people fear being blinded by truth and they keep on their shades and stay in the darkness.  Difficulty or tragedy on earth sometimes opens them up to see things differently.

Pastor Don shared with us that in 2014 and 2015 there will be major eclipses that will occur on Jewish holidays.

The question is, when do we start counting the 7 years of tribulation?  We want to keep teaching to our unsaved friends and family so that when we are gone (raptured) they will turn to God.

Hebrews 12:28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.

The spiritual Kingdom is not shaken.  We have grace.  We see this kingdom in two aspects.  1. At the end of all time and 2. in the present time.

The shaking is progressive.  Right now, we who have the Kingdom are not shaken in the here and now.  But the shaking will be more evident as time goes by.  It will be a consuming fire.  We have reverence and Godly fear, for those who will not fear Him, who have no reverence, the fire burns and consumes, destroys.

Hebrews 12:29 For our God is a consuming fire.

It is a fire that purges and cleanses.  God is a covenant making God.   The problem comes when we assume our own plan and presume who God is, and the nature of the plan is not from God, but from our own prideful hearts.  We redesign God in ways that are not who God is.  Truth is truth.

If you want to understand world politics and history, follow the money.

Deuteronomy 9:3 Therefore understand today that the LORD your God is He who goes over before you as a consuming fire. He will destroy them and bring them down before you; so you shall drive them out and destroy them quickly, as the LORD has said to you.

When we come to live the Christian life we have the choice to make our enemy big or our redeemer big, letting our redeemer have His rightful place.  People tend to judge by externals such as how big the church is, how many new people are coming to meetings, etc.

Someone shared that they like to collect little frogs, and one member of their group came in and told them that they were out of order because in Exodus one of the plagues was a plague of frogs, so they should not have frog figurines in their house.  These figurines are not idols, just little statues that they like.

In reply, Pastor Don talked about the Bible study he used to teach in his home before he became pastor.  Occasionally legalists would come through the study, and they would speak badly of Pastor Don and his teachings.  For example, one day Pastor Don winked at somebody, and the person found the proverb, Proverbs 10:10 He who winks with the eye causes trouble, but a prating fool will fall. This person took this one verse and used it to rake Pastor Don over the coals. Pastor Don said that he was accused of being one of the “winkers,”  and according to this person Pastor Don and his group were half way to hell.  Pastor Don just loved on the person and continued to do right.  Eventually the person realized that Pastor Don acted righteously. By walking in love the person was won over.

People can be so righteous Scripturally but fall into error, not realizing that the Spirit of the Word gives life.  The letter of the Word brings death, if it is not properly applied doctrinally. In Exodus God did use a plague of frogs but that was to attack the frog god of the Egyptians, but that did not mean that all frogs were bad. God created frogs, and they are necessary to maintain an ecological balance.

We need to realize what is appropriate for our dispensation.  Pastor Don, with a twinkle in his eye, suggested that this person tell their friend the next time they are biting a juicy hamburger, that since cows were sacrificed to the bull god and the Israelites made a golden calf, hamburgers and veal Parmesan should not be eaten.

If we are only in the letter of the law, we are resorting to the legalism of the Pharisees, who concocted laws that no one could keep.

Yet, if it is truly disturbing to someone and could shake their faith, maybe remove the frogs when that person comes over, so that they do not stray from the faith.

About Heather Marsten

Welcome to Heather's Blog. I'm looking forward to meeting you and checking out your sites. I just moved about nine years of material over from another blog site, Xanga, who may close down mid-July. At first I was disappointed to make the move because I had a lifetime membership at Xanga and had to spend weeks transferring posts. But now I'm thrilled. Already I've met new bloggers and read many new websites. Blogging is a wonderful way to expand my horizons and garner new ideas. I'm a happily married mom of three young adults. My husband and I are proud to watch our children grow and venture out into the world. My daughter is still in college but my two sons have graduated. One has a job and the other just graduated and is in the process of finding a job in his field, physics. Anyone know of any jobs out there? I'm proud of our children and love watching them grow and mature. They've become fine, compassionate, and loving people. Empty nest? Nah, I'm too busy to let an empty nest bother me. Not enough hours in the day. My husband and I enjoy quiet time together and I have many interests to pursue - one of which is blogging :D I am a born-again believer and love God. As you read this blog, you will discover that Bible studies thrill me. There is so much wisdom contained between the covers of the Bible and I am fortunate to sit under the teachings of a remarkable pastor, Pastor Don Moore. Members of our church (Living Word Chapel in West Hurley, New York) are encouraged to teach and there are visiting pastors who stop by our church, I also study the Bible on my own and love sharing what I learn. One other passion is writing. My current work in process is a memoir. A scene from my memoir was published in a book called: Heavenly Company: Entertaining Angels Unaware - an anthology of angelic encounters compiled by Cecil Murphy. I'm hoping my memoir will encourage other survivors of abuse. I grew up in a home filled with abuse, including incest. For most of my life I was searching for something that would fill the void of not being loved by my parents. I tried many ways to find that love -- therapy, relationships, occult studies, and keeping my life so filled I had no way to think about my past. It was only when I discovered God that I was able to put the pieces of my life back together and walk forward in a joyous life. My nickname - wondering has changed from wondering where the heck God was in my life, to wondering what incredible adventure is going to happen next. I hope you enjoy my site. Please say hi, share some thoughts, and ask questions. I look forward to meeting you and checking out your sites. Have a blessed day. Heather
