Be Strengthened In the Lord by Pastor Don

Here is the closed caption script (slightly edited for easier reading)  Remember, what is in brackets [ ] was said by the congregation, three dots … means a pause.  If you are on the East Coast many can see these closed captioned sermons on on TBN on Thursday at 12:30 PM and Tuesday at 3:30 AM.

BE STRENGTHENED IN THE LORD

We are finding there are very few public figures we can trust. As time now begins to exert pressure, we’re beginning to find that what I prophesied to you a year ago, has begun to manifest. That everything that is not nailed down, that is not built on the solid rock is being exposed and destroyed. Everything that can be shaken is going to be shaken. And we arrive at a time where, if we’re not careful, as we look at the fruit, we ourselves can become shaken. As we see people that we thought were one thing, we can become shaken. When we watch a television show, and we see people getting saved and healed and so forth, and then we find out that the marriage of that minister is a disaster, we can be shaken.

We can find that when someone has prophesied to us, and it doesn’t mean that the prophecy’s not correct, but when prophecies have been brought forth that there should be prosperity and there should be a chicken in every pot, a fried chicken.  [laughter]  Well, what do we find?  We find, wait a minute now.  Wait a minute.  I can barely pay my rent. There must be something wrong with the prosperity message.  We begin to find ourselves shaken.  We begin to wonder, when we add up our pennies verses this prophetic word of this great financial outpouring, we begin to wonder and say, my goodness….what, what am I supposed to hold on to here?

What is solid?  What can I count on? …What is there that is the truth that is going to work here?  Mark 11:25 is not going to change.  It says, “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone…” do what?  [forgive them].  Forgive them. And that’s going to stay pivotal in terms of how your blessings are going to be meted out.  That’s not going to change.

So when we look at our personal lives, we have grudges.  We have people that have irritated us, that have annoyed us, that have disappointed us.  If I keep on going, we’ll all be crying.  [laughter]  But isn’t it true?  Is there anybody here that no one’s ever hurt your feelings?  Is there anybody here that no one’s ever offended you?  Anybody here, you’ve never been disappointed in people?  Nobody’s ever let you down?…huh? Anybody here, nobody’s ever told you a lie?  A bold-faced lie.  Looked you right in the eye when they told it….I think these people know some liars.  [laughter]  You know some people.  So we’re disappointed in our relationships, we’re disappointed in those people that we’ve placed on a pedestal.  We’re even disappointed when we look at marriages and things that have failed around us.  We need to realize that we can become weakened.  We can become shaken in our faith.  We can become a little confused.  That wasn’t what we signed up for.  That wasn’t what we were believing was going to happen.

There are many married couples that sit in here right now and say, this was not my plan.  I really thought that he was at least Hopalong Cassidy. [laughter]  If he wasn’t the Lone Ranger, he should have at least been one of those guys.  Most of you don’t know who Hopalong Cassidy is. Hopalong Cassidy was this white cowboy who rode a white horse, who had a round hat with a big round thing on the top, and a white suit.  He always had one of those Benny Hinn white suits, and he was always the fastest on the draw.  But he never killed anybody.  Hopalong Cassidy was one of the good, good guys.  He’d draw and he always would shoot the gun out of the other guy’s hand.  He’d never shoot the guy.  No matter how bad and evil the guy was, he’d always,  katchuum, ping (imitates shooting a gun), the gun would go out of the guy’s hand.  Hopalong Cassidy was just tremendous.  And he never, ever got into a fight where he had to throw more than one punch.  [amen, laughter]  And even if he didn’t hit the guy, the guy fell out.  [laughter]  You know what I mean, it didn’t matter which hand he threw, which ever punch he threw, the guy was going to be out.  And then of course, you know, he’d ride off into the sunset.  And the cool thing about Hopalong Cassidy was he never fell in love.  All the women fell in love with him and he’d always give them the same look…[laughter] Did you see it?  Did you see it?  He’d give them the love look, then he’d get on his horse and ride off, ride away.  He was one lonely guy, I’m telling you.

But we don’t have heroes like that anymore…We don’t have heroes like that.  And right now, we’re in this political election.  And we’re wondering who the next person is that we’re going to find out was not like Hopalong Cassidy. We’re waiting to see who else has something in the closet that is going to be exposed.  And we see it in our sports athletes, and everything.  We just can’t see it.

But the difficult thing about looking at it is this.  How have we lost the truth, that if we’re looking for our strength anywhere except in God…it’s going to fail?  If we’ve placed our trust in anything other than God, it fails.  And how many times do we have to look at the same picture over and over again before we wake up and realize that the God life is the only way to live a completed, happy life?  That half stepping on it doesn’t work.

I don’t know what we have to do.  One of our great New York Yankees, just this summer, he’s one of the best with the bat, great with the glove, but he stepped outside of his marriage.  It hit the newspapers. Now he can’t get a hit.

What are we going to have to say to people to get them to realize that, if you stand for one thing and you don’t live for that one thing, you will be found out?…What are going to … I don’t know, I don’t know, I don’t know.  I don’t have the answers.  I raise the questions.  I don’t have the answer.  But you know, you just can’t defraud and cheat people with one hand and expect the blessings of God to come upon you with the other hand.  It just doesn’t work that way.  If your trust is in lotto, then guess what, God’s not going to get you promoted on your job.  Forget it. [laughter]

Joshua said, “Choose this day whom you will serve.”  You need to realize something, that pastors are falling, they’re dropping like flies, and the reason is because they got to a place where they’ve pulled their strength from the wrong place.  See, if we’re not drawing our strength from the right place, we can’t stay strong.  I’m not beating up on you.  I mean, I’m just as fallen as all you all.  You know, I’ve got a better front than you, that’s all.  I’ve got a nice suit.  I’ve got a nice tie.  I look good and all that.  But I’m a sinner saved by grace, just like the rest of you.

How many of you are sinners saved by grace?…  We’ve got one or two, who don’t raise their hand.  They don’t have a clue…But the rest of us, we’re saved by grace which means that God has provided a way for us to get back up when we’ve fallen down.  Is that not the case?  [yeah]  But, there should be a point where you fall down less!  [laughter]…Did that work for somebody?  You should be falling down less now than you did last year.  The same stuff that worked to get you to fall down before, you should be able to overcome.

If you’ve dug a financial hole, by running up your credit cards, at some point you should cut up your credit cards…That’s just basic sense.  After awhile, if you can’t get it together, then you don’t deserve to have it.  Having a credit card is a privilege.  And if you can’t use it wisely, you ought to cut it up…  You should steal your wife’s pocketbook, if, if she’s addicted to Filenes’s or Macy’s or something, you get a big pair of scissors, and say, “Honey, you have forfeited the right to have a purse…[laughter]  And you just take the big things and chop the thing up.  Because why? She’s drawing her strength from somewhere else.  Come on now.

So we just have to get to a place where we just get it clear in our heads, that if we’re drawing our strength from an improper source, it will not strengthen us.  It will weaken us…Weaken us.  Somebody said once, you can’t preach on willpower.  And I thought about that for a minute. I said, well wait a minute.  Wait a minute…Wait a minute…You can preach on willpower.  I believe that everyone that has a will, your will ought to be getting stronger in the God area.  [amen]  Only Joy agrees.  Well praise God, thank you sister.  [laughter] Yeah.  If you have a will, you should be able to get your will to be stronger in the God area.  There are things you should be strengthened to be able to say no to.  [amen!]  You should be stronger.  You should be able to tell your mouth to speak right.  [amen]  Amen?  [yes]  Come on raise a hand, wiggle at me.  You should be able to control your mouth better this year than you did last year.  You should be strengthened in some things.  If you spoke hard and negative to your wife, you ought to be better at speaking soft and kinder to her. Your willpower should just rise up and say I’m not going to talk to you like that.  [amen]  Forget that.  I’m going to talk to you like Pastor Don.  You sweet, beautiful, lovely, wonderful wife.  [ok, amen]

Every husband in here, I give you the best sermon I can.  Tell  your wife three times a day, minimum, “I love you.”  Tell her she’s beautiful, especially in the morning.  [laughter]  Yeah, before what?…  Yeah, tell her in the morning early.  When she gets out of bed, you get up and say, “Baby, you’re beautiful.”  Why?  Because you want to build up her nature, her character.  You want to build up her confidence.  Every wife should say, look her guy in the eyes, every day, you should look him in the eyes and say, “You are my, you are my tree.”…When I was dating my wife that’s why I married her.  She said, “Don, you are my tree.”  That meant she could hug me and I would be right there.  So she’d take me places and leave me.  [laugher]  Come back and get me a few hours later.  You know, and I’d be right there.  [laughter]  Waiting for a hug.  Come on, you get the point, right.  And so what happens?  I would draw strength, from that.  From that affirmation I would draw strength from that.  From that, what?  [affirmation]  From that affirmation, can you say affirmation?  [affirmation]  Affirmation, you can draw strength from a positive affirmation.  [amen]

I want you to realize something.  Everything that you’ve drawn strength from, prior to this moment is being taken away from you…America is going to be stripped of everything it’s trusted in, until it goes back to what was on the money, that they want off the money.  “In God we trust.” [amen] We’re going to have no place to hide because that’s what’s going to happen.  Every church that is built upon a different Gospel than Jesus Christ is Lord, what they trusting in will be stripped away from them.  Do you follow me?  Many churches will lose people because they are no longer preaching the prosperity message.   I’m not saying that the prosperity message is wrong.  I’m saying, there’s going to come a time when, when you stop preaching it, the people that are only coming for me and mine [come on] they’re going to be gone…

You can’t wait til the opportunity of testing comes to decide to be strong…You have to do it in the time of preparation and prepare yourself.  Let’s see what God says He’s going to do.  What’s God going to do here?  In the 27th Psalm, verse  14…You there?  [yes]  It says, “Wait on the LORD; be of…” what?  [good courage]  “…good courage…”  You know what kind of good courage is?  Don’t give up courage.  Good courage is, even if you afraid, you’re going forward.  Even if you’re shaken, you’re going to get focused here.  And so, it says, “Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall…” do what?  [strengthen your heart]  He’s going to “strengthen your heart”.  In other words, it is God. If you will wait on God, now that word, “wait” is a different word, it’s a different word in Hebrew.  But that “wait” is an active waiting…It’s an active waiting.  It’s a waiting in faith, but waiting with anticipation that whatever God said  He’s going to do…Praise God Almighty!  He’s going to do it.  [yes]  It’s waiting with expectation and faith, that what has been promised is gonna come to pass.  You see, sometimes we get afraid because we are not waiting with the anticipation of the reality that we believe in the promise.

You ever watch a little kid wait for Santa Claus?  I mean how do they wait?  You can’t get them to bed…They’re like, I don’t want to go to bed. I’m going to stay up.  I’ll stay up.  I’ll stay up, I’m waiting, I’m waiting.  Why?  They’re waiting with anticipation for Santa Claus.  So, it’s hard to get them to bed, it’s hard to get their mind off of anything, because why?  They’re anticipating that some how, some way, even though they don’t have a chimney, they have electric heat, some big fat guy is coming through a chimney dressed in a red suit with stuff….But the kid, he believes the promise.  He believes the promise is that when he gets up in the morning, there’s going to be stuff for him.  So he waits eagerly, looking for it. That is the kind of wait that is here.  It’s the kind of wait, you can’t get the kid out of bed at 8:00 in the morning no mater what you do.  But Christmas morning 6:00 he’s already in the living room.  [laughter]  Did you get that example?  [yes]  That works, right?  [yep]  Yeah, that works.

So we’ve got to begin to wait that way.  And then He says, if you will wait that way, with good courage, don’t give up, He says, and He, God, shall strengthen your heart.  Meaning He will build you up on the inside, the little you on here will become the bigger you.  You’ll get strengthened in your heart.

Go to Isaiah 35…That’s a few books back. I just pulled some of these verses out… this is one of my favorites, you ready?  [yeah]  Isaiah 35, are you there yet?  [yes]  Turning pages, oh saints of God.  That sounded like scripture, didn’t it?  Turn those pages, ye saints of God.  Alright, Isaiah 35 verse 3.  Let’s read it together, come on, “Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees.”  Now, look at verse 4.  Let’s say it, come on, “Say to those who are fearful-hearted, “Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God; He will come and save you.”  My goodness!  Let’s look at those two verses again.  Together, hit it!  “Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees.  Say to those who are fearful-hearted, “Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God; He will come and save you.””  Lord, have mercy!  Somebody say, “Praise the Lord.” [Praise the Lord]  Praise the Lord.

So how do we get strengthened?  The first way that we get strengthened is to speak affirming messages to people and to yourself.  And this way is another way.  What does He say?  Don’t be fearful.  Do not be fearful.  And say something to other people.  If you will strengthen other people, it will strengthen you.  [yes, amen]  Oh, my goodness!  Did anybody hear that?  [yeah]  You can be afraid, but if you’ll tell someone else not to be afraid, then guess what?  You will be strengthened.

This morning I’m listening on the radio and the news, and Greene County, the next county above us, just lost one factory that employs hundreds of people and the guy was saying, well we’re going to miss that factory, and those hundreds of people, they’ll be out of work.  Then he says, and there’s another company in our county that’s going to be out of work.  And there’s going to be people out of work and so forth and so on.  And then he, the commentator says, what are you going to do?  What are we going to do?  He says, well, we’re going to have to appeal to the state, we’re going to have to appeal to the people.  We’re going to have to get the word out, we need jobs.  And we’re going to have to do something to get jobs.  And I’m thinking to myself, doesn’t he have a plan for the people?…  What’s the plan for the people?… They’re the ones that are going to be suffering.  They’re the ones out of work, out of jobs.  There has to be someone to stand in the gap to say to them, wait a minute…what are you going to do if the state doesn’t come through?  The state is broke!  [right] What are we going to do?  We’re going to keep depending on someone from the government who’s going to run down and, and help us.  NO!  We have to learn not to be afraid, and to open up possibilities for ourselves.  [amen]  Well praise God, I’ve got one independent business woman who’ll clap for that.  [amen]…  You need to get a God idea, and not be afraid….

Things are not as they always have been, nor will they be as they used to be.  Some of you would never, you’re too proud to wait on people.  You may have to consider getting a service job. …Some of you who would never take a job where your hands would get dirty, you may have to take a job where your hands get dirty.  Some of you would never work nights.  You may have to work nights.  Some of you super holy people may have to take a job on Sundays.  Then we’ll find out if you believe what the Word says, that every day is the Lord’s Day.  [amen]  Lord have mercy.  I’m going to get mail on that one.  [laughter]  Read the book of Hebrews, Chapter 4 before you write and call me…  [laughter]

Do you understand what I’m trying to say?  I am telling you, God does nothing in the Earth unless he tells his prophets. I’m prophesying to you, get ready to change your have to’s, want to’s, and will tos…We’re going into uncharted territory for the United States of America.  Hopefully it will be short season.  [laughter] Hopefully it will be a short season. But if this is going to be a long stretch, you’d better be prepared to get God ideas, to survive or else the only one working in our church will be the bread man…Brother Tommy.  Because people will not live without bread. He’s raising his hand.  Look here, you already got the job.  [laughter]

America has not lived sufficiently to call itself under the protection arm of the Lord.  [yeah, that’s right]…  We have not…We have not fulfilled, 2 Chronicles 7:14.  “If my people who are called by My Name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”  [yes He will]…We’re going to need to be strengthened…We’re going to need to be strengthened from God in our own personal resolve and our own personal dictates, and the way that we live our lives.  We’re going to have to be personally strengthened to withstand what’s coming upon the earth.  And God says, He’ll do it.

Let’s look at another one.  Go, see if you can find Zechariah, it’s after this, It’s right before Matthew and those books.  And they call them minor prophets but these guys were heavies.  In the 10th chapter of Zechariah.  Chapter 10…Let’s go to verse 11 and come on down to it, alright.  “He shall pass through the sea with affliction, and strike the waves of the sea:  All the depths of the River shall dry up.  Then the pride of Assyria shall be brought down, and the scepter of Egypt shall depart.”  In other words, listen to me carefully, when things get tough, when difficulty comes, when there’s affliction, when the seas are rising, when the rivers, the sources from which we used to get things begin to dry up, the question is, when our pride is broken, when difficulties face us, where do we turn?  Verse 12, “So I will strengthen them…” How?  [in the LORD] “In the LORD, and they shall walk up and down...” What?  [in His name] “In His name,” says the LORD.”  What’s He saying?  You shall be strengthened in the name of the LORD, and you shall walk up and down in the strength [Clap] of His name.  [amen]  In the strength of His name.

Hebrews, Chapter 12, I’m going to give you Old Testament, New Testament.  Look at this one in Hebrews, Chapter 12…It’s before the book of James and Peter and all of those.  Chapter 12, “Therefore strengthen the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.  Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:” What is He saying?  “…looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;…”

Today I want to encourage you, be strengthened in the Lord, and the power of His might.  Be strengthened in the promise that He has made to you.  His great and precious promises…  Don’t let a root of bitterness build up inside you to anybody about anything.  Don’t hold onto any offenses in these last days.  And I beg you, please don’t speak an evil word against the saints of God.  It says, touch not my anointed.  Every Spirit-filled believer is anointed.  Don’t touch them.  Be careful about how you judge ministers.  Be careful of how you judge the saints.  Be careful of what you say about each other.  God is listening.  God is listening. Don’t turn on the TV and because you don’t like the way somebody’s dressed, criticize them.  Leave them alone.  Don’t let a root of bitterness build up in your heart.  Don’t think you are all that.  You’re not all that.  Stay humble.  God’s made some wonderful and beautiful people.  They may be down on Monday, but they may be back up on Thursday.  And if they are, God’s pleased with them.  He isn’t looking for people that never fall.  He’s looking for people that get up real quick. I’m getting up as fast,.. I’m jumping up.  I mess up,.. I’m not waiting, I’m not waiting for Sunday to get right with God.  I want to do it Monday afternoon, 3 o’clock, 4 o’clock. I’m going to just, boom, I need to be strengthened in the Lord.  I’ve no way of knowing what’s coming upon the earth.  I have no way of knowing what is laid out for me personally, specifically.  Neither do you.  You don’t know who’s going to come against ya.  But you’re going to have to be strengthened, you gonna have to be strengthened before it arrives.  Don’t wait to get strong, when the temptation and the trial comes.  Do it now.  Get some Holy Ghost weight lifting in.  Get some new Scriptures on your refrigerator.  Get some new Scriptures on your refrigerator and on your door.  Put something on the bathroom mirror that reminds you that you want to build up yourself. You want to get strong in the Lord.  Cause the test is coming. The pressure is building.  But He’s made great and precious promises.  He said He will strengthen us…..

Praise God that He will strengthen us.  Praying your weekend was great.

About Heather Marsten

Welcome to Heather's Blog. I'm looking forward to meeting you and checking out your sites. I just moved about nine years of material over from another blog site, Xanga, who may close down mid-July. At first I was disappointed to make the move because I had a lifetime membership at Xanga and had to spend weeks transferring posts. But now I'm thrilled. Already I've met new bloggers and read many new websites. Blogging is a wonderful way to expand my horizons and garner new ideas. I'm a happily married mom of three young adults. My husband and I are proud to watch our children grow and venture out into the world. My daughter is still in college but my two sons have graduated. One has a job and the other just graduated and is in the process of finding a job in his field, physics. Anyone know of any jobs out there? I'm proud of our children and love watching them grow and mature. They've become fine, compassionate, and loving people. Empty nest? Nah, I'm too busy to let an empty nest bother me. Not enough hours in the day. My husband and I enjoy quiet time together and I have many interests to pursue - one of which is blogging :D I am a born-again believer and love God. As you read this blog, you will discover that Bible studies thrill me. There is so much wisdom contained between the covers of the Bible and I am fortunate to sit under the teachings of a remarkable pastor, Pastor Don Moore. Members of our church (Living Word Chapel in West Hurley, New York) are encouraged to teach and there are visiting pastors who stop by our church, I also study the Bible on my own and love sharing what I learn. One other passion is writing. My current work in process is a memoir. A scene from my memoir was published in a book called: Heavenly Company: Entertaining Angels Unaware - an anthology of angelic encounters compiled by Cecil Murphy. I'm hoping my memoir will encourage other survivors of abuse. I grew up in a home filled with abuse, including incest. For most of my life I was searching for something that would fill the void of not being loved by my parents. I tried many ways to find that love -- therapy, relationships, occult studies, and keeping my life so filled I had no way to think about my past. It was only when I discovered God that I was able to put the pieces of my life back together and walk forward in a joyous life. My nickname - wondering has changed from wondering where the heck God was in my life, to wondering what incredible adventure is going to happen next. I hope you enjoy my site. Please say hi, share some thoughts, and ask questions. I look forward to meeting you and checking out your sites. Have a blessed day. Heather
